Kidlington is a large village about five miles from Oxford and 7 ½ miles from Bicester, it is nested between the River Cherwell and the Oxford Canal and is a civil parish with quite a large population.
Kidlington’s church (St Mary The Virgin) dates back from 1220 but historical evidence shows that there was a church on the site since AD 1073. St Mary’s has stained glass windows and a 220-foot spire known as “Our Lady’s Needle”, the church is also a 1 listed building.
Kidlington village has a rich history and in the 20th century Kidlington was a contender for the largest village in England and even Europe.
Proposals in the past to make Kidlington village a town have been resisted by the residents with a ballot of 98%.
