North Hinksey is nested between the busy A34 Oxford bypass and the Hinksey Stream.
Some of the houses in the old part of the village has thatched roofs giving it that old fashioned village look and feel.
It is written that the village has had several names since its original settlement in the Saxon period, at one time access to and from west Oxford could be by ferry by way of Ferry Hinksey Road. The ferry ceased to run back in 1928.
The church, Church of St. Lawrence dates back to at least the 12th century so there is a possibility that it could date back even further!
