On the Seacourt Stream which is a branch of the River Thames and around 3 miles from the centre of Oxford is the village of Wytham, it is a civil parish was part of Berkshire right up until 1974.
Whytham’s woodlands is a semi-natural woodland and has been owned and maintained since 1942 by the university of Oxford, the 1000 acres the woodland sits on is of specific scientific interest and is one of the most researched pieces of woodland in the world.
Wytham may be a small village but it is also a thriving one, although there is only a population of about 120 the village attracts plenty of visitors who visit to see its untouched tranquillity.
Wytham has a village shop hall, pub/ restaurant and its won church (All Saints Church) The White Heart is a country gastro pub & restaurant which has been under new management since 2015and has received awards and nominations for the food they serve.
Wytham village store doubles up as a post office and is ne of the most unique village shops in the UK the village store which is in a 200 year old grade A listed building stocks a wide variety of provisions and also has its own tea rooms serving teas coffees, cakes, flapjacks and made to order sandwiches.
There has been a Church in Wytham since 1135 and the current building was build in 1811 – 1812 by the 5th earl of Abington (Montague Bertie) within the church you will find many artefacts and from the 17th century and stained glass from the buildings before.
As the village is only four miles from Oxford the residents benefit from all that Oxford has to offer including its many restaurants and bars, and attractions, Wytham is an ideal rustic rural location but close enough to all important amenities.
